Few weeks after Nobert Young,a Nigerian popular actor said that there is no Nollywood in Nigeria but Igbowood. A Nigerian actress Halima Abubakar has also raised her voice to the dominance of the Igbos in the industry, accusing them of tribalism and not giving up coming artistes an opportunity to showcase themselves.
She said " I have experienced tribalism,I know people would say it is a lie but that is true. Why should those from particular group not reach out to people who are not specifically from their area?
"I have worked with a lot of Igbos ,my marketer is Igbo.I have worked with a lot them and I know those I have not worked with,I have not seen the right roles for me yet,but I believe they will come.' "But how about others who are independently shooting movies, does it mean those are the only set of actors in Nollywood? I am not saying they should give me roles, but there are people who want to see fresh faces. We need to give others opportunity to show their talents.I am saying, stop tribalism and bring everyone under the umbrella of AGN" Halima said. ***HALIMA SAID SHE HAS WORKED WITH MANY OF THEM,THAT SHE HAS NOT SEEN THE RIGHT ROLES BUT BELIEVE THEY WILL COME, YET SHE IS BEING MARGINALISED. IF IT IS ACTUALLY TRUE,THAT MARGINALISATION IS IN AGN..THEN IT IS IN-COMPETENCE THAT DISQUALIFIES PEOPLE AND NOT TRIBALISM,BECAUSE NO MOVIE PRODUCER CAN GO FOR LEARNERS INSTEAD OF EXPERTS MOREOVER,HOW COME THE PRESENT AND FIRST AGN FEMALE PRESIDENT IS NOT AN IGBO,IF YOUR INCOMPETENCE DISQUALIFIES YOU FOR A JOB,PLEASE DON'T SAY IT'S TRIBALISM.
