Anambra Guber: INEC Begins Voter Registration, August 19.

Ahead of the November 16th governorship election in Anambra State, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega yesterday declared that the registration would begin in the State from August 19-25 this year.
Jega stated this yesterday in a meeting with stakeholders from the State on the preparations for the Anambra governorship election. He urged the stakeholders to strictly observe the provisions of the electoral process just as he gave an assurance that the commission was bent on producing a clean voter's register ahead of the election.
According to Jega,"Doing this will give an opportunity for all those who have become 18 years and above since the last registration in 2011 to register, for all those who have registered and we have their records on the manual register, that is,those on the so-called addendum register or whose details are incomplete to have their registration status updated. It is in this context that we have made a review of the register of voters for Anambra State a key item on the agenda for today's meeting. As we are all aware, the credibility of the register of the voters goes a long way to assure the credibility of the elections. In this regard, we have left no stone unturned in order to clean up and have a very credible register for Anambra State before the November 16,governorship election. Prof. Jega noted that the electioneering and voting processes must be conducted decently, lawfully and peacefully in accordance to best practices,he also maintained that it is the desire of INEC to make Anambra's election the best so far. He said that INEC cannot succeed alone without the cooperation and partnership of all stakeholders especially political parties, their candidates and the whole Anambrarian.
